Wiked Fury - Scars Under My Skin EP

The saying goes that there is no fury like a woman scorned, and bloody hell, Perth girl Wiked Fury must have had a run of shitbag boyfriends, and takes the opportunity over seven tracks here to rip and tear into love and those who have wronged her.

I Meant Every Word, I Never Said I Loved You, Scars Under My Skin, You’re A Fuckhead – you get the drift, we have a young Aussie Alannis Morisette here!

Let’s get the negative out of the way from the get go – the production isn’t full enough to ably support Fury’s quirky and expressive voice, occasionally sounding closer to a demo than a debut EP should.

The positives though, are plentiful. Think about Lily Allen’s street smart, cutting lyrics and vocals. Think about some shredding 80’s metal guitar. Think about The Runaways. Think, even, about Australian 90’s alternative flash in the pan Max Sharam.

Now combine the whole lot into a slightly naïve but undeniably tenacious mix and by fuck, it bloody works, perhaps against the odds.

If someone can get the girl into a studio with a bit more realistic a budget, I reckon we might just have something very impressive indeed on our hands – until then, this is a solid start from a precocious talent that deserves to be taken very seriously indeed.
