I Love Rich - Respect The Rich cover

I Love Rich have apparently been terrorising the greater Chicago area for nigh on ten years, releasing several albums along the way, and Respect The Rich sees them getting in touch with their “sensitive side” (it says here) on their new flagship tune, (You’re So Hot) I’m Gonna Fuck You With The Lights On.

One glance at that title may have you thinking of Steel Panther, reinforced by another track called If You Don’t Take Your Clothes Off, Tonight’s Gonna Suck, but in actual fact I Love Rich are closer to an exaggerated version of KISS than our favourite wig-wearing spandex-clad shock comedy rockers. [Editor’s note – that could describe either band to some, surely…?]

With Ace Frehley-styled lead guitar from Full Throttle and Chuck E Sleaze, the KISS connection is sealed, and what I Love Rich lack in originality, they surely more than make up for in enthusiasm, energy and sheer balls-out bravado.

The two aforementioned songs are songs first, comedy routines a distant second, and frankly, they rock. Wake Up, Let Me Rock You and Fight The Fire hammer home the slightly clichéd theme, and the best on show is We’re Here To Save Rock And Roll, a song so tailor made for the full arena treatment that if you close your eyes you can see the pyro going off and feel the heat from the stage.

(You’re So Hot) I’m Gonna Fuck You With The Lights On also appears en Espanol, which is a nice touch that works well, and if you’re a touch too sensitive, princess, there’s also a clean radio version substituting the word Love for the nasty F word.
