We knew we were going to love this band before we knew a damned thing about them or heard a note – after all, there’s no chance they’d have such a cool name and play synth pop, is there? Apparently named after American blues guitarist Charles ‘Chuck’ Norris (so says Wikipedia), rather than the action hero killing machine martial arts actor, this Gothenburg, Sweden quintet play the sort of high energy rock n’ roll that is at home in sleazy dives where your shoes stick to the floor thanks to litres of spilt alcohol, where the only thing meaner and uglier than the clientele are the barmaids, and where the band would be bottled for even thinking about an ABBA song.

Bound to appeal to fans of Crystal Pistol, Backyard Babies, et al, the five Chucks (Chuck Ransom, Chuck the Ripper, Chuck Dakota, Chuck Rooster and Chuck Buz, rounded out by producer Chuck Tonic) rock hard in pursuit of a good time, all the time.

Habit To Support, Money Maker, Murder On My Mind, Bad Hombres and Piece Of Ass all pay homage to the seedy side of life with suitable raucous, punk-fuelled heavy rockin’ smarts, while Long Way Back is eerily reminiscent of Sabbath’s Hand Of Doom, with added zombie apocalypse-baiting lyrics.

As classy as a resolutely ‘no class’ gang of bad asses can be.
