As a minor feminist alt/folk/grunge icon in the late 1990’s, Diana Anaid looked set to burst internationally and rival the likes of Liz Phair, L7 and the like in cult stardom, but it was not to be, and she was been mostly silent (apart from a couple of singles) since the mid-2000’s.

My Queen is a striking and challenging return for this uncompromising artist, with jagged-edged alt pop, singer/songwriter cool, and emotional relevance in the form of lyrical inspiration from the transgender journey of Anaid’s sister.

Co-written by long-time guitarist Nathan Correy and produced by the legendary Brit expat and ARIA winner Steve James, My Queen will doubtless make Anaid the star of the alternative pack in this country at least. Importantly, there is also enough melodic radio-friendliness at play to threaten a real crossover to the mainstream charts given enough chance.
