Possessing a voice as warm & rich as melted honey, Dan Sultan has proved a unique talent in modern Australian music over the past 20 years, and delivers the goods with this, his third album.

Fusing soul, pop and rock and roll sensibilities, his music has always been instantly likable and accessible, with proven genre crossover hit potential highlighting his versatility and adaptability.

More importantly, he refuses to play safe lyrically. Sure there are love songs sprinkled through his work, but he’s equally likely to be challenging indigenous land rights or the way modern Australian culture treats the nation’s historical custodians, the Stolen Generation or why the date of Australia Day should be changed, shining alight on injustices done to our indigenous people then and now.

Sultan’s success is well-documented and well-deserved, and this is a great album – one of the best of the year.

But more importantly, there’s a strong feeling that not only is his best work lying ahead of him, but also that he’s an essential voice for modern Australia, and a shining role model and educator for our youth, black and white.
