Like fellow Eastern States rockers The Dirty Earth’s latest incarnation, Shadowqueen boast an impressive female lead singer (Robbi Zana, also playing bass and keys), an inventive, original guitarist (Si Hopman) and a relentless drummer (Alex Deegan).

This second album is a sonic assault that – whilst not prog rock, per se – approaches song structure with a different eye, resulting in songs that avoid the grind of sounding the same as every other hard rock band, and through unusual riffs and changing rhythms take us a welcome couple of steps off the well-beaten path.

Opener Ruin Me and Waiting On You rock hard, their catchiness and might astutely weighed out, while Someday is another standout, while the lyrical darkness of relationships risen above and love fought hard for are strikingly evocative and touching.
