Taking their foundation cues from the early Deep Purple canon are Sweden’s Siena Root, specifically the Blackmore-Gillan-Lord-Paice-Glover axis, but it is cunningly tempered with a patina of ‘60s pop, a happyish Summer Of Love feel, and at times a late-Hendrix ambience and warmth.

It’s what the band call a “Swedish root rock experience” and the result, whilst wearing their influence on their collective sleeves, is lovingly curated and a joy to listen to.

All beards and hair on the cover of their 5th album in 15 years, Siena Root recorded the album deep in a Scandinavian forest in one week, and the result is vibrant and exciting, predicated by great playing, searing guitarwork and on Empty Streets, some Hammond histrionics that is a sheer joy to listen to.
