8 Quick Ones with BINGX – August 2017

According to a recent press release: “Long overlooked as a hip-hop town, Seattle is on the cusp of graduating its newest hip hop star since Macklemore. BINGX is a familiar face throughout his hometown scene, but he’s spent the last year crisscrossing the country to mine collaborations and produce his second project. After honing his dazzling double-time flows and somersaulting lyricism, Bingx—one syllable—addresses the rest” We get BINGX to answer some questions about new music, his influences, and more…

1. Tell us a little about your latest release.  What might a fan or listener not grab the first or second time they listen through?  Are there any hidden nuggets the band put in the material or that only diehard fans might find?

My E.G.O. (Emotional Genius Obliged) is me telling the world not to put me in a box. We live in an era where people have to put a label on everything because it’s their only way to familiarize/relate to things/people. So this album is a diverse showcase of my ability as a writer/singer/rapper/producer/mixing engineer. The amalgamation of “Chanler”,  “Bingx The Rapper” and “ The Musician” is still under way, but the most current portrayal of that blend is out now and available on all DSP’s. There’s quite a few punch lines in the album that I think people won’t catch until their 5th or 6th time through. I’ve actually been receiving personal messages from fans telling me they just caught what i said in a song, after many cycles playing through the album. Which is very rewarding to hear.

2. What got you into music, and can you tell us about the moment you realized you wanted to be a musician?

I found rap in high school, fell in love immediately and started memorizing Tech N9ne songs. i really started writing when i was in basic combat training in the military. When i graduated basic i had saved a decent amount of $ and invested it in recording equipment.

3. Who would be your main five musical influences?

Tech N9ne, Eminem, Sublime, Cake and J Cole/Drake.

4. If you could call in any one collaborator to do a song with, who would it be?

Justin Timberlake

5. How would you describe your music to someone who’d never listened to you before?

Vibey. I capture vibes in my music, every song brings an aura with it and takes you somewhere. Trust the vibes and see where it takes you.

6. What’s the best thing about being a musician?

I’m a very emotional person, music has allowed me to find an outlet for my emotions. The best part is when i’m upset, i create a song about it. Then the next time i’m in my feels i can go listen to that song and remember what it felt like to move past it/work through it, because i captured the growth process when i vented it through my music. It helps me daily.

7. If you weren’t a musician, what would be your dream job?

I can’t imagine doing anything else. I’d want to be a father though, with four kids and provide them with a positive, stable life environment. That’s one of my favorite dreams, and i am currently living it right now. Tatum being successful will be a huge win for my life. My childhood wasn’t exactly any of the aforementioned things.

8. Looking back over your career, is there a single moment or situation you feel was a misstep or you would like to have a “do over”?

Not a single one. Everything that i’ve been through, good and bad, has allowed me to become the person i am today. For all those times that i “ Reacted” badly to a situation? Through them i learned how to rationalize my emotions and “Respond”. For every bad relationship, business partnership or connection burned? I learned how to communicate and talk about things up front, set boundaries in the beginning and get the proper paperwork in order to provide a foundation of communication and professionalism. I look in the mirror at 27 years old and i think “ i’m proud to be that man “. I wouldn’t want or ask to change a thing.
