The Church of the Wild Ones Tour rolled through Pontiac, MI on a cold snowy day. The crowd was lined up for hours around the building waiting to see the Black Veil Brides conquer yet another venue on this tour. The doors opened at 6:45 and there was a mad rush to pack the floor and press as many bodies against the barricade as possible. This was not going to be like any other BVB show in Michigan. This SOLD OUT show was to feature a CD Release show from openers What Happened In Vegas and another electrifying performance from special guest William Control. Both of these band made their way through their sets exciting and electrifying the crowd. The provided a great warm up for what was to happen at 8:45.
As the time approached, the minions started their chant… “Black Veil Brides. Black Veil Brides. Black Veil Brides.” You get the idea. The lights went out and the Intro from the latest disc, ‘Wretched and Divine’ piped from the stacks of speakers and one by one, the guys took to the stage in the darkness. Once everyone was in place, the band kicked the show off with the lead track from the new disc, “Bulletproof.” The set list was heavy with new tracks, but no one cared, as the crowd was all too familiar with the new songs. The last release, ‘Set The world On Fire’ was also well represented tonight with tracks such as “New Religion,” a killer version (and a personal highlight of the evening) of “God Bless You,” as well as the singles “Rebel Love Song” and “Fallen Angels.” The debut disc and previously issued digital EP were both represented by one track each, including a great cover of Billy Idol’s “Rebel Yell.” The band was on top of their game tonight. Drummer CC was nothing but a vision of arms and hair as he took to setting the pace for the night behind his double kick kit. Guitarists Jake and Jinxx were constantly moving from one side of the stage to the other to make sure their fans all got a glimpse of their fretwork and solos. Bassist Ashley was all over the place tonight, thanks to a wireless mic headpiece. He was feverishly running from one spot on the stage to the next in order to leave no stone unturned. Band founder and leader, Andy, new what he was there to do and did it well. His presence was commanding as he moved the band through the rest of the set list, including tracks like “All Your Hate,” another rocking high spot “Youth And Whiskey,” and through the final song of the encore, “In The End.” He was on the go, letting the fans know through his words and energy that he knew why they were there and that he and the rest of the band were thankful for it. What a Church service it was tonight in Pontiac… and “God Bless You.”
