It was exactly one year ago Moon Taxi came to town, where they played to a sold out Bijou Theater. A lot has changed since then. They released a new album Daybreaker and have been aggressively touring with stops at the likes of Bonnaroo, Governors Ball, Lollapalooza, the Late Night show, and Conan. This year promises even bigger venues and festivals including Hangout Festival and Coachella. Baeble Music touted Moon Taxi as one of the 10 must see acts at Coachella 2016. This time around they filled the Tennessee Theatre, which is over twice the capacity of the Bijou. Due to weather, which crippled much of the East coast, the show was pushed back to Sunday night from the originally scheduled Saturday. That didn’t deter fans, all showed up despite the conditions. Though originating in Nashville, keyboardist/vocalist Wes Bailey is a Knoxville native and the band is clearly a local favorite. The crowd was on their feet the entire show and sang along to every song. The group gave back with a high-energy performance supported with a psychedelic light show. The playlist included songs from their four studio releases as well as a cover of Bowie’s “Fame”. They walked off stage after the set and turned right around for an encore including Elton John’s “Rocket Man” and “Running Wild.”
It was another great show by Moon Taxi. They are clearly gaining momentum on the national scene and look forward to continued success in 2016!
