BURDEN MAN – October tour dates and new video

Sydney musician Justin Finch released his debut EP, Shadows Of The Dying under the moniker of Burden Man earlier this year.

Today, Burden Man has released a brand new music video for the track Flesh Prison which follows on thematically from the EP’s first video and title track.

Flesh Prison is about continuously failing in finding the will to live. It’s not hidden that the entire Shadows’ E.P deals with varying stages of depression.

However, ‘Flesh Prison’ is one of the more personal songs on the E.P that is deeply set in the lowest of the lows with no perceivable way of escaping.

Burden Man explains: “The clip acts as an extension to the story told in the Shadows Of The Dying video where I kill myself. Tortured by the fact that one day my consciousness will cease to be, I’m on a non stop track to that place. I’ve wrestled many times with the idea of just giving up and taking matters into my own hands. My only real chance of having some kind of control.

“However, everything has consequences and the clip for Flesh Prison is my way of exploring what they would be if I went ahead and followed through. In the afterlife, I find myself bound by nooses, just like the one I hung myself with. Even in death there is no freedom, as my soul is tethered by the decision that brought me to this point.

“Yes, I could take control of my destiny but my victory would be a hollow one: I’m still bound by the exact thing that haunted me in life.”

Flesh Prison was directed by Dane Hopkins with Director of Photography Matias Bolla and make up by Melanie Shires.

Burden Man will be playing a number of shows around Sydney during October and will be heading to WA for the first time too!

Burden Man is best described as dark folk. Heavy and crushing but not in a metallic sense. In an emotional one.

While Justin’s roots lay in metal and blues, where undoubtedly inspiration is drawn, Burden Man is more aligned with singer/songwriters such as Chelsea Wolfe, Leonard Cohen and Nick Cave with a much heavier edge.

Weaving relatable tales of sorrow and contemplation of the inevitable with sombre tones to create a unique style of deathly, Dark Folk.

Burden Man delivers intimate, heartfelt and brooding melodies that are coupled with melancholic and minimalist rhythm guitar work which has a tonality that both simultaneously nurtures and disturbs you.

These rhythmic stylings fit perfectly with the soulful, ambient and at times, chaotic lead work appearing to imitate varying mental states.

The Burden Man EP was recorded and mixed by Stevie Knight and mastered by Dave Petrovic at Sydney’s iconic Electric Sun Studios (Thy Art is Murder, COG etc)
