Kady didn’t realise, when she broke up with Ezra, that their world was about to end. Literally.
If only she had known, maybe she would have held off.
INTERVIEWER: All right, then. Let’s talk about something that makes you happy.
Ezra Mason: … You mean like lingerie models?
INTERVIEWER: Tell me about your girlfriend.
Ezra Mason: Wowwww.
Ezra Mason: You’re really bad at this, chum.
Ezra Mason: Like. If Bad was a sport, you could Bad for your planet.
Now they’re on two different ships, trying to escape the pursuing enemy who wants to make sure there are no witnesses. Kady has hacked into the system, and across the void they’re trying to work out what’s going on, why they were attacked, and who they can trust.
Someone’s hiding something from the rest of the fleet, and Kady and Ez are determined to find out what it is… or die trying.
Illuminae is another “found footage” kind of novel, and the story literally has a little bit of everything. Within these pages you’ll find romance, action, adventure, horror, and a good helping of sci-fi. It’s scary, it’s heartbreaking, it’s funny. It’s damn near perfect.
Found footage can take some getting used to, what with all the jumping around, and it can take a little while to feel the flow of the story. From the very start, I was intrigued and kept wanting to read more, but it was around the 250 page mark that this book took over my life.
The voices are unique, the writing is compelling, and it will have you in tears one moment and laughing the next.
If you like a book that climbs inside you and takes a hold of your heart, a book that treats your emotions like a rag doll but has you coming back for more, this one is for you!
Illuminae is book 1 in the Illuminae Files trilogy.
