Whether or not you’re a subscriber to the Danger Dolan Youtube channel, if you like learning interesting and varied facts, you’re bound to find something to like in this book.

Danger Dolan Countdown is presented in an engaging and visually appealing format, with black and white images and orange highlights throughout. With short passages for each entry (typically 2-4 short paragraphs), readers will gather a range of information in a short time and come out of the book having learned something new.

For the most part, these entries are friendly for a range of ages, as there is nothing too adult or innuendo-ridden, but there is a section on “15 places you are most likely to Die” which includes places prone to tsunamis or volcanic eruption and crime-filled areas, which pushes the suggested reading age up towards the early teens at the very least.

One or two entries have some errors in the language, like the “Most Useless Body Parts” countdown, in which wisdom teeth are said to “typically develop between the ages of 17 and 25 years.” when wisdom teeth don’t so much develop (or grow) in this time as erupt or have issues develop. In another instance the myth that ancient Egyptians were contacted by aliens is untrue, while not citing any reason why this is debunked.

Besides these couple of issues, the book as a whole is interesting and easy to devour in a sitting, and comes complete with a quiz and reference for readers to investigate the enclosed facts in more depth.

Fans of titles in the Guinness World Records and Ripley’s Believe it or Not are bound to find a lot to enjoy in Danger Dolan Countdown.
