Take a humdrum suburban couple, add glamourous new neighbours who just may be Internationally jet-setting Bond-like spies, and add a pinch of professional intrigue and some bumbling goofball fish-out-of-water fun – it’s a trope which is far from new, but it is handled well and played strictly for laughs in this latest vehicle for Zach Galifianakis and Jon Hamm.
Both of the leads make the most of the material, and their respective partners Isla Fisher and Gal Gadot play second fiddle to no man, taking a big bite out of the action and humour, ensuring that the pace is kept at optimum speed throughout.
Galifianakis plays the bumbling fool well, especially during a scene in an exclusive back lot Asian restaurant where tequila shots and snake venom go horribly wrong, and Patton Oswalt as uber bad guy Scorpion hams it up to the max.
The door is left open, of course, for a sequel, but it may be a case of once is enough for this story.
